Chester MapFurther on, past The 'Bowling Green' pub was a Co-Op, with a telegraph system suspended from the ceiling, in order to deliver customer's money, in screw capped canisters, to the clerk who used to be on a pedestal at the rear of the shop. The telegraph was an ingenious device which relied on a series of pulley's and springs which enabled one to send monet and messages to and fro within the shop. and who completed the transaction by filling the canister with change and recipt, before pulling the (toilet like) chain and sending the canister flying accross the ceiling back to the assistant. This building is now the 'brasserie 10-16' restaurant.
The veg shop now sells goth/heavy
metal videos and game paraphanalia, while the butchers shop on
the other side of Brook Pl. passage is a motorcycle parts shop.
